Should You Get Married?

By Debbie Anderson

Before you decide to marry your long distance relationship, it is important to analyze your motivations and ability to commit by asking yourself the following questions.
  • Are you in love with the person?

Make sure that you are not just infatuated or suffering from a case of obsession and lust. Consider waiting a year before making a decision to get married. Through the year, you will see them at their best and worst.

  • Do you want a lifetime partner?

Love transforms during marriage. Don't get married just to have a child or because you think marriage will change a moody or depressed partner. It is extremely difficult to change someone else and it is not going to happen by marrying him or her.

  • Does your potential partner handle crisis situations well?

No matter what happens in your life, your spouse is going to be there also. You will be facing challenges together. Can you picture yourself with them handling difficult situations? Or do you already banish them when things are bad because they just make it worse.

Marriage is a good thing. But if you go into it for wrong reasons, chances are you will want out of it soon.
